Dear Church Family,
We want to share with you an important decision regarding the future direction of our church. After much prayer, study of Scripture, and careful discussion, the congregation of Albion First Baptist Church voted to withdraw our affiliation from American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) and American Baptist Churches of Nebraska (ABC Nebraska).
This decision has not been made quickly or lightly. We are deeply aware that denominational affiliation carries history, relationships, and shared ministry. We are thankful for many faithful pastors, churches, and individuals within the American Baptist family who genuinely love the Lord Jesus Christ and labor for the gospel.
At the same time, over an extended period of evaluation, it has become increasingly clear that our church’s theological convictions and understanding of Scripture are no longer aligned with the direction and doctrinal posture of ABCUSA and its regional body. As a church, we are firmly committed to the full authority, sufficiency, and clarity of God’s Word. We believe Scripture is not only inspired, but also binding and decisive in matters of faith, doctrine, and practice.
We are also convinced that cooperation in ministry should be rooted in shared biblical convictions, especially concerning the gospel, the nature of the church, and moral and ethical teaching. When significant differences exist in these foundational areas, continued formal partnership becomes increasingly difficult to maintain with integrity and clarity.
This decision is not motivated by anger, politics, or a desire to isolate ourselves. Nor is it a declaration that all American Baptist churches or leaders are unfaithful. Rather, it is a matter of conscience and faithfulness. We believe that honesty before God and before one another requires us to acknowledge that our church can no longer continue within that denominational framework while remaining true to our convictions.
Importantly, what will not change is who we are and what we are committed to as a church. We will continue to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, preach the Word of God, make disciples, care for one another, support missions, and seek to glorify God in all things. Jesus Christ alone is the head of the church, and His Word will remain our final authority.
We recognize that decisions like this can raise questions and concerns. We are committed to transparency and will provide opportunities for conversation, explanation, and prayer together as a church family. We ask that this season be marked by unity, humility, and love, even as we walk through change.
Please pray for wisdom for our leaders, unity within our congregation, and continued faithfulness to Christ. Let us remember that our ultimate identity is not found in a denominational name, but in belonging to Jesus Christ and His body.
Thank you for your trust, prayers, and partnership in the gospel.
In Christ,
Reverend Keith Brich and Deaconate
